When estrogen levels decline after menopause, many changes occur. Millions of women experience symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itching, burning or painful intercourse as a consequence of these changes. Many women suffer silently, and those who seek treatment find their options limited: messy estrogen creams or hormone replacement therapy, which isn’t for everyone. For over a decade now, Mona Lisa Touch has been treating women and improving symptoms, leaving women happier and able to enjoy life again.
Mona Lisa Touch is a fast, simple and safe laser treatment procedure that takes less than 5 minutes. It delivers both immediate and long-lasting relief AND it’s clinically proven to really work.

Mona Lisa Touch is a new procedure that patients have referred to as “life-changing.” Mona Lisa Touch delivers gentle laser energy to the vaginal wall that stimulates a healing response and enhanced moisture levels in the vaginal canal. It restores vaginal health by generating new collagen, elastin and vascularization.
A typical course of treatment is three procedures over 12 weeks. Many women report symptom relief after the very first treatment and even greater improvement after two more treatments. Many women opt to continue an annual Mona Lisa Touch maintenance session.
Mona Lisa Touch FAQs
What happens during treatment?
The procedure will seem similar to your annual exam and will likely be even quicker. The physician will insert the laser tip into your vagina and deliver laser energy pulses. The total procedure time is less than 5 minutes.
Does it hurt?
The laser energy itself is painless. Some patients will report mild discomfort with the laser tip insertion during the procedure due to vaginal dryness.
How soon can I expect results?
Many patients have reported that they experience relief right away. Virtually all patients have experienced relief by the second treatment, or week 6.
How long do results last?
Patients should refrain from sexual activity for 3 days.
What are my limitations after the procedure?
Mona Lisa Touch provides long-lasting results. A once-a-year single treatment is recommended to maintain symptom relief. This can be done quickly and conveniently during your annual checkup.

The MonaLisa Touch is particularly well suited for patients who cannot or prefer not to receive estrogen therapy.
Will the procedure be covered by insurance?
To date, no processing code has been established and insurance companies do not currently cover this treatment. Therefore, this will be considered an out of pocket cost which can be discussed in the office. Please contact the office to schedule a consultation.
What clinical trials have been conducted on the MonaLisa Touch?
A multisite study was conducted by Dr. Mickey Karram, Director of Fellowship Program on Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH and Dr. Eric Sokol, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University Medical Center.
The trial assessed the use of CO2 fractional laser therapy on 30 women with vaginal health issues due to natural or induced menopause (chemotherapy, radiations, anticancer drugs like Tamoxifen). All of the patients in the trial were treated with the Mona Lisa Touch laser therapy. The results were overwhelmingly positive and immediate results were noted. Women in the trial were found to have highly statistically significant improvement in symptoms after first treatment. Moreover, there was increased progress with each subsequent treatment.
A study was done by Dr. Stefano Salvatore, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vita- Salute San Raffaele University to assess the feasibility of fractional CO2 laser treatment of 50 women suffering changes in their gynecologic health. 42 patients (84%) showed significant improvement in their physical and mental quality of life scores over baseline and were satisfied with treatment. In addition to the multisite study, there are currently 8 published studies with 6 ongoing studies.
